Bobby Lane Wins Inaugural PAA Tour Team Challenge
Lane/Brown Duo Wins $100,000 and Two Nitro Bass Boats
Bobby Lane grew up in Florida. It's where he learned to fish, but lately the fishing in his home state hasn't been kind – until now. The Abu Garcia pro and tournament partner Gerald Brown won the inaugural Bass Pro Shops PAA Tour Team Challenge on Lake Toho this past weekend.
With a combined total of 64.64 pounds, the team captured the $100,000 worth of cash and prizes along with two new Nitro Z-8 and Z-7 boats with Mercury 225 Optimax and XS outboards.
"It's about time I came away with a victory here," said Lane. "It got pretty tough on Saturday, but Gerald and I were able to stick it out and capitalize on the bites we had. We pretty much sight fished for the most part, but we were able to also fish amongst the lily pads for some big bites."
The Lakeland, Fla., native was casting lily pads with a 6.25-inch HAVOC Bottom Hopper and pitching a HAVOC Craw Fatty in Okochobee Craw color. Utilizing the speed of the Revo SX 7:1.1 reel and the 8-foot, heavy action Abu Garcia Villain, Lane caught two fish during the tournament that went over 10 pounds.
"The big fish are really starting to bite," Lane continued. "I used the high speed Revo SX reel to pick up my slack when casting in the lily pads. When those big fish hit you have to be able to make up as much slack is possible to land them.. The rod action was perfect as well. The new Villain rods, especially the big eight footer, give me the lightweight, sensitive rod that has enough backbone to really get a good positive hook set."
Lane's next tournament comes on a lake that he is very familiar with during the FLW Open. The Abu Garcia pro looks to continue the hot streak on Lake Okeechobee February 9th – 12th.
