Brent Ehrler Wins Years First FLW Event
Win Gives Ehrler Fourth FLW Tour Victory
Abu Garcia pro Brent Ehrler claimed his fourth career FLW Tour victory this past weekend on Lake Hartwell. Ehrler boasted a total catch of 74 pounds, 13 ounces to walk away with the $100,000 top prize along with $25,000 of Ranger Boats bonus cash.
The Redlands, Calif., native used a variety of techniques to earn the win. He fished deep jigs with an Abu Garcia Revo MGX paired with an Abu Garcia Villain rod. Ehrler chose to use the higher-speed 7:9.1 reel that allowed for more line take up when setting the hook on the large Hartwell bass. Ehrler also employed the Revo Toro for an umbrella rig and a Revo Premier size 40 spinning reel for his drop-shot rig.
"It feels great to be back into the winning seat," said Ehrler. "The gear I used played a huge role in the win. Most my fish came extremely deep, 30-50 feet deep, off big drop-offs. I felt those were the best chances for big bites."
In his great fishing career, Ehrler has 29 top-10 finishes in FLW events since 2003 as well as over $1.86 million in career earnings. He recorded two angler-of-the-year titles (EverStart Series Western Division in 2003 and FLW Series Western Division in 2010), finished runner-up in the FLW Tour Angler of the Year race in 2008 and 2011 and netted three top-10 finishes in the Forrest Wood Cup since 2006.
The next FLW Tour Major event is set for March 29-April 1 on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Mo.
