Abu Garcia Pro Powroznik Earns Rookie of the Year Title
B.A.S.S. top rookie then wins Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship tourney
Jacob Powroznik has had a tremendous start to his young career as a B.A.S.S. rookie, and one of the greatest rookie seasons in B.A.S.S. history, amassing over $160,000 in just eight tournaments, including $38,500 for the Rookie Angler of the Year award. The Abu Garcia pro wrapped up a Rookie of the Year title with a 6th place overall finish at the A.R.E. Truck Caps Bassmaster Elite event that took place in August on Cayuga Lake, N. Y. and reinforced his title by the weather-shortened Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship just completed on Lake Michigan’s Bays de Noc.
"This is no ordinary rookie class," said Powroznik. "The anglers that were in this class are so good each week it makes this award a great accomplishment. There is still more work to be done, but I am thrilled to add this to the list of accomplishments in my first year."
The Port Haywood, Va., native has wrapped up a Bassmaster Classic spot for 2015. Powroznik finished third in the overall Angler of the Year race and won two Elite events as a rookie, the first of any angler to win two events in one year since 2010.
Powroznik outlasted 13 other rookies by amassing 623 points over the eight tournaments this regular season. The young Berkley pro has finished 11 times in the money over his brief B.A.S.S. career. He has six top 10 finishes and two Elite victories.
"It was a great year with my sponsors," said Powroznik. "Each of these events demands 100% focus and dedication and winning the rookie of the year is something I set my sights on early. I really feel that I was completely focused throughout the year."
The Rookie of the Year annually goes to the BASS Elite Series rookie who has the highest year-end point total in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season.
