Rated 1 out of 5 by jose187 from piece of junk reel I bought this reel at walmart for my son for christmas well it only lasted 2 months and that's because the lake was frozen. We went fishing after it thawed out and this reel is garbage! the line kept getting stuck in the reel and the finger that reels the line in kept slipping and it wouldn't reel in the line. I spent $30 for nothing the other Abu Garcia reels are good but this one is a total piece of trash don't waste your money for nothing with this reel

Rated 1 out of 5 by Into Disassembly from dissapointing reel I bought two of these reels to take to CO trout fishing. Very disappointed. One reel would not release to cast properly and kept jamming. The reels came spooled from the store, but line got over the front of the spool and jammed the reel so that the handle couldn't turn or release. Piece of junk for such a high price. Would not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TxTurkeyHunter from The Abu Garcia Abumatic SX Spincast Reel I finally got around to obtaining one at Walmart (wanted two, got the last one). Got a sweet deal. The SX has a sweet cast and retrieve. The line release button is in the perfect place (unlike the Abumatic 170) and helps me retain a good solid grip on the rod while casting. The drag is also in the right place on the reel and is easy to operate with your thumb. Because of the SX's setup, I've become a major fan of it over the Abumatic 170 (and I like it a lot). I currently have my SX on a Spincast rod that together provides the right balance and makes casting and retrieving a joy. With 8 pounds of Trilene XL line on the SX, I caught several large size fish on my first outing with it. For all of the Anglers that fish from banks, the SX is a great addition to your reel arsenal. Purchase one today and see for yourself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Big Chuckie from Was hoping for more I bought this today replacing a 25 y.o Zebco. I got it out of the package Got it ready to fish The handle was floppy I unscrewed the plastic nut thinking it was a cover for a reel screw. Nope the plastic piece is the screw. It casts as expected. I started reeling and where I have large hands it was difficult finding a secure grip. While reeling the screw cover rubs my hand. After the first cast the reel sounds like the pick up pin is scraping on the inside of the front cover It reels ok but the noise is concerning. I did catch a bass with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by sasa from very bad product of ABU GARCIA !!! Reel did not work season and on the cap of the spool is formed a layer of rust, which will affect its performance. The mechanism was seizing at the time of casting, the line began to scratch and tear in the damaged areas. In short, fishing is impossible.very bad product of ABU GARCIA !!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by br549NC from Very disappointed. Every reel I've had up until this one has been a $15 or less reel from WalMart. Finally treated myself to a "name"- Abu Garcia- and spent $30 on a reel. 2nd time I used it to reel cover came loose on a cast. Once I got the massive "birdsnest" unraveled/cut loose I found that the cover (top half) wouldn't neatly fit back on to the bottom half and tighten down. The slotted grooves that it should slide into and rotate to lock on were barely indentations, and poorly aligned. The reel has been nothing but trouble since then. Line jams all the time, doesn't release freely upon casting, and in general has been a very poor performer. I honestly expected a lot more from an Abu Garcia. Darned shame with a $10 Shakespeare can out-perform something costing 3 times as much.
