ABU GARCIA PRO BOYD DUCKETT REELS IN BASSMASTER CLASSIC WIN WITH REVO

02.28.2007

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (February 26, 2007) Newly crowned Bassmaster Classic champion Boyd Duckett is no stranger to Lay Lake. In fact, the Demopolis, Ala., pro has been fishing the lakes on the Coosa River for decades. With the 2007 Bassmaster Classic being staged in such familiar waters, Duckett had little problem identifying what gear he needed in his boat in order to compete for the sport¹s most prestigious title. And when it came to reels, Duckett went with the Abu Garcia REVO.

Having found plenty of fish in practice and with a wealth of knowledge about the fishery, Duckett settled on two primary patterns on his way to winning the 37th Bassmaster Classic. The first included flipping Berkley® PowerBait® Chigger Craws at shallow fish; when the fish went deeper, he slowly jigged lipless crankbaits near the bottom in deeper water. In both cases, his Abu Garcia REVO proved invaluable.

³I caught an 8-pound, 2-ounce monster on the first day and the 6-pound, 9-ouncer that won the Classic for me both by flipping that Chigger Craw around mats. I knew I had to have a couple of big bites every day if I was going to win,² Duckett said. ³With the REVO, I was able to make flip after flip after flip and the reel was accurate, lightweight, comfortable and easy to hold. Once I hooked these big fish, the REVO was plenty tough enough to drag them out of some pretty thick cover.

³I also caught some good fish by fishing a crankbait really slow on the bottom, almost like a jig. It was picking up a lot of trash on the bottom but that was the only way to make them bite once they went deep. The REVO is a great cranking reel, even though I wasn¹t really cranking these baits, it was still important. First, it casts so smoothly and accurately, I was able to get the bait right where I wanted it. Plus, whenever I knew I had a bunch of trash on the hooks, the high-speed retrieve allowed me to get the bait back to the boat so much faster so I could clean it off and get it back in the water.²
