ABU GARCIA PRO HILL CLAIMS BASS PRIDE OF GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP
—
Abu Garcia pro Kenyon Hill nearly lapped the field to take his first title on the 2008 BASS Elite Series trail. Hill¹s closest competitor was nearly nine pounds shy of reaching the first place finisher on Clarks Hill Lake. The Berkley pro cashed a $100,000 check with his winning bag of 68-Pounds, 00-ounces. the low-profile baitcasting STX and REVO Premier reels were Hill¹s choice for the Clarks Hill BASS Elite Series event.
³I had a very consistent week,² Hill said. The Abu Garcia STX and REVO Premier reels performed as advertised. That 7-pounder I hauled in was the biggest of the tournament and I brought him to the boat with ease. The Abu Garcia reel was a key contributor in both the tournament win and the ³Big Bass² of the tournament award.²
In addition to the Abu Garcia reels, Hill also used Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon for Carolina rigging as well as Spiderwire Ultracast for his topwater presentation.
Hill also cashed an additional check with the Berkley ³Pay for Performance² incentive program. Berkley pros are rewarded for using Berkley line or bait while finishing in the top five at BASS Elite Series of FLW Tour events. This was Hill¹s third Top 12 finish in the first five events of the year.
Hill was not the only Abu Garcia pro making a splash. Skeet Reese, using the new signature Skeet Reese edition REVO reels, finished in ninth place.
The Angler of the Year race continues to feature Abu Garcia pros. With the win, Hill jumped back into the top ten at sixth place. Also included in the top ten are Abu Garcia pros Skeet Reese (2007 BASS Angler of the Year) at third, Scott Rook at fourth and Bobby Lane at 10th.
The next Elite Series event is set for May 15-18 on Lake Murray in Columbia, S.C.
