Naturally I was leery about buying anything digital for fishing, but thought I'd give it a try, and got a good sale price on the Abu website... The only thing I didn't like about buying from the site is that they want you to download some sort of silly app to track shipping.

First use was today and the reel worked perfectly... it is so quiet and smooth. I liked the warning beeps telling you when the fish is getting close. I didn't notice if the back light came on when getting a bite as it was very sunny today. Still trying to figure out what the little switch is above the "Toro DLC" label. The only thing I would like differently is for the reel to be a bit smaller but overall it fits nicely in my hand. That being said, in addition to use for kokanee I could also use it for trolling for sockeye. I hope the line counter continues to work and that it is also water tight for use in the rain.

The digital line counter will stop working. The computer board thats in the reel will fail, they are made with very low quality computer boards. Mine continues to show battery dead and shuts off, even with a brand new battery. I tried several new batteries and keep getting the same result rendering the line counter useless. The whole point of this reel is the line counting. I recommend you buy an Okuma Coldwater if you want a line counter to work. Now my Max DCL Low Profile Bait Caster is just a regular bait caster. I regret this purchase.
