I own 3 of these and have 1 on a 8 ft. Ugly Stik and the other 2 on 10 ft. Ugly Stiks. I live in South Texas where the surf is nice and the drum and redfish run heavy. I pulled out 40" drums weighing 30+ lbs easy. They are so smooth casting, lots of power, and dependable.

It is impossible to rate just one reel when you own 80 different Ambassadeurs. I own various reels from the1600 series, 2500 series. 3500 series, 4500/4600 series, 5500/5600 series, 6500/6600 series, 7000i, 7500's, two 7700 Morrums, several 8000's, 8600's, 9000's and two 10000 reels. Each reel is set up for a specific set of purposes. From inshore for Blues and Spanish or bottom fish such as Spades or Sheepshead, or short or long range popping for Stripers and Big Blues or Drum to weight and bait for big Reds, Cobia, etcetera, Ambassadeur has a reel perfect for the task. I own at least a dozen International reels in the 80 and have purchased vauious Ambassadeur parts to have 3.8, 4.7, 5.3, 6.1, and 6.3 reels for use on either a boat, pier, or beach, depending upon the application and target species. The most versatile reel line ever created. Have converted numerous friends to Ambassadeur.

I bought set of pro rockets and they dont hold a candle to the Calcutta. Sold my rockets lost money. Abu Garcia should be ashamed of themselves trying to compare those reels.
