Bought my son the size 20 max z spinning reel. It has alot of the features the more expensive reels have at the fraction of the cost. Great reel for a beginner without breaking the bank.

Although I have ABU Garcia spinning reels from the newer 750 through 2000 in the Maxx series, I wanted to try this model as a dedicated reel for casting panfish jigs and I am quite pleased with its performance so far. Casting-A+, smoothness of retrieve -A+, drag system - A +, it is just an overall nice reel that doesn’t break the bank. I know there are nicer and much more costly reels out there but this is all I need for me. I am using this on an ultralight rod with 8 lb braid .
